Senior Voice Recital
at TAMIU Tuesday, Nov. 6
Encourage participation in the performing arts by attending one of the many performing arts events at Texas A&M International University. Soprano Jessica Cardenas will perform her senior voice solo recital Tuesday, Nov. 6 at 7 p.m. in the TAMIU Center for the Fine and Performing Arts (CFPA) Recital Hall.
This event is free and open to the public.
Cardenas will perform works by G.F. Haendel, W.A. Mozart, Richard Strauss, Ernest Chausson and contemporary composer Lee Hoiby. Translations of the foreign-language song texts will be simultaneously projected onto a screen throughout the performance.
Piano accompaniment will be provided by Mariko Morita, visiting assistant professor of music and accompanist.
Originally a clarinetist who also intended to minor in theater arts, Cardenas made the decision to switch her principal instrument to voice at the end of her freshman year at TAMIU after having worked with Suzanne Ramo, former adjunct voice instructor.
“I was drawn to the idea of a career in singing onstage and using my theatrical experience,” said Cardenas, who is known among Laredo audiences for her performances in many local plays and musicals.
“My father has always encouraged me to develop my singing and pursue it as a career. The many semesters of required technical work have been worth it to get me to this point. I hope this recital will be the first of many in my career,” she added.
This recital partially fulfills the requirements for the Bachelor of Music degree.
Cardenas is a student of Dana Crabtree, instructor of music.
