Texas A&M International University’s student newspaper, “The Bridge,” has never been closer…it’s just a click away on the Web at thebridgenewspaper.com
“The Bridge” has joined the digital age as a supplement to its published editions.
“Bridge” Editor Peter Villanueva said the move gives the paper additional accessibility, flexibility and functionality.
“Our move onto the World Wide Web allows us increased flexibility. Now our student and community readers can access our paper online, 24/7. As writers, it provides us with a flexibility to supplement our published edition with updates and new stories.
“Finally, the online edition offers some functionality that we have not previously been able to offer: we have a polling capability with the online edition, for example. We’re also tied into a dynamic network of news geared for college students,” Villanueva explained.
“The site is very user friendly and very interactive; our readers can now tell us what they think about each one of stories by commenting on them,” added Villanueva.
The online edition includes advertising, both local and national, and contributions from various campus media writers in addition to the TAMIU student staff.
Faculty advisor Mark Webber said the move to the online environment has been relatively problem-free.
“We’re using a special Web-based online publishing technology and content management solution designed specifically for college newspapers and the campus newsroom that is produced by College Publisher. We’ve been happy with the results and our readers seem to like what they’ve seen,” Webber said.
Users can also register on the Web site and receive updates automatically as they become available.
More than 450 campuses use College Publisher for their online editions, he noted.
