TAMIU Students Can Spend Spring Break in France
Looking for something different to do this Spring Break? Why not spend Spring Break in France?
This travel opportunity, to take place March 9-17, is available for Texas A&M International University students or members of the community enrolled for Fall 2006 or registered by Nov. 17 for Spring 2007 French classes including FREN 1311 or 1312. The deadline for confirmation and payment is Nov. 17.
The trip focuses on linguistic acquisition, highlighting cultural awareness in areas such as France's history, geography, and contemporary culture. Participants will also complete a travel journal.
The trip includes a guided walking tour of Paris, a visit to Notre Dame Cathedral, l'Opéra and Versailles. The group will take a morning tour of the Louvre, an afternoon transfer to Avignon by bullet train, a tour of Nîmes and Arles, Avignon and its historical Papal seat.
Then, it's off by train to the Rivera, via Cassis, and a visit to the Calanques. The group will also visit Monaco and Eze, have a guided tour of a perfume factory at Grasses, a tour of Nice, and a guided tour of St. Paul de Vence which includes visits to the ateliers of several artists, including Matisse and Picasso.
"France has so much to offer-culture, art, history, and fashion; the trip will be an exciting time for everyone," said Dr. Annette Olsen-Fazi, TAMIU associate professor of English and French.
If interested in applying, students and/or community members must complete the Short-Term Application as well as applicable Scholarship Applications, and submit by Nov. 17, 2006, to the TAMIU Office of International Education (OIE).
Non-TAMIU students can also attend this program if enrolled in a French course and attending classes on the TAMIU campus. Non-TAMIU students can contact OIE for further application details.
The program costs $ 2,201 for students 23 and younger and $2,491 for those 24 and older. Costs include round-trip travel from Laredo to Paris, bullet train to the Riviera, excursions, passes to museums, hotel stay, breakfast and dinner, and health insurance. Program costs do not include TAMIU tuition & fees, personal expenses, estimated from $500-$600, lunch, or travel documents.
Deadline for payment of the full balance is Nov. 17.
In the event of cancellations 116 days prior to departure, participants will receive a full refund, less the $95 Lifetime Membership Fee and cancellation fee of a $150. Cancellations 75-15 days prior to departure will receive a refund less the $95 Lifetime Membership Fee and a $400 cancellation charge. Cancellations 14 days or less prior to departure will receive no refund. For an additional $60, students can obtain cancellation insurance.
