Bach's Christmas Cantata Brings Holiday Joy to TAMIU Saturday
On Saturday night, the musical joys of Bach will be celebrated with
a special concert by the Texas A&M International University ProCantus
Chorale at 8 p.m. in the Center for the Fine and Performing Arts' Recital
Hall.
The evening's program will include Johann Sebastian Bach's Christmas
Cantatas with a special performance by guest artists the 60-plus member
ProCantus Simphonicus of McAllen.
The event is free of charge and open to the public. Families are especially
encouraged to bring their children and enjoy the rare opportunity.
Dr. Mazias De Oliveira, assistant professor of music at TAMIU and director
of the TAMIU Chorale, said the evening will be a remarkable treat with
music that has touched hearts for generations.
"This is truly the music that has framed holiday memories for generations
and we are indeed fortunate to be able to present a program of such beauty.
This will be a wonderful evening of holiday cheer that will truly get
the audience in the holiday spirit. Based on audience interest, we hope
to be able to make this part of the unique traditions of the holidays
here at TAMIU, such as we have already done with our successful presentations
of 'Las Posadas,' and 'Guitarras de la Navidad,'" he explained.
In addition to the Bach program, guests will also enjoy a series of
seasonal standards including "Oh Holy Night", "Jesu Bambino,"
"Panis Angelicus," Handel's "Hallelujah Chorus" and
others.
