Secretary of State Offers TAMIU Fall Commencement Address
Secretary of State Geoffrey S. Connor will provide the commencement
address for Texas A&M International University's Fall Commencement
Exercises on Saturday, Dec. 18 at 2 p.m. on the Sue and Radcliffe Killam
Library plaza.
Approximately 301 students are candidates for undergraduate or graduate
degrees to be awarded by the University's three colleges.
As 104th Secretary of State, Connor is the chief elections officer for
the state, serves as chief international protocol officer for Texas, maintains
business and public filings and acts as the Governor's chief liaison on
border and Mexico affairs.
Prior to being appointed by Governor Rick Perry in 2003, Secretary Connor
served as Assistant Secretary of State for almost three years. Before
joining the Secretary of State's office, Connor worked as an attorney
for a private firm. He has also served as assistant commissioner and general
counsel for the Texas Department of Agriculture, general counsel for the
Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, as well as deputy general counsel
to Governor William P. Clements.
The Secretary also served as a member of the Coastal Coordination Committee
and State Emergency Communications Commission.
Secretary Connor was born and raised in Runnels County in west Texas.
