Thursday marks Laredo's only city-wide Financial Aid Fair at Texas A&M International University's Kinesiology/Convocation Building from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. and from 5- 8 p.m.
One of the University's most popular community outreach events, the Fair aims to provide over 2,000 students and their parents with vital information about financial aid.
Araceli Rangel, A&M International's Director of Financial Aid, said everyone from lenders to volunteer income tax preparers will be on hand.
"There'll be 14 lenders on hand to provide information on loan programs, VITA volunteers will assist in income tax preparation and several local and regional scholarship providers have been asked to join us for the event. We'll also be able to help people with the necessary paperwork for financial assistance and even electronically transmit information to help speed the process. Other schools will also have representatives attending," she explained.
Rangel said changes in federal assistance programs, new scholarships and other programs make higher education more affordable and accessible.
"Changes in federal assistance programs, scholarships and other programs can insure that a University degree is within every student's grasp," she noted.
Other schools participating in the event will include: Texas A&M University-Kingsville, Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi, University of Texas--Pan Am, and Southwest Texas State University.
The University will host campus tours at event and participants will be able to register for prizes, including scholarships. Student clubs will also share information on their activities. Refreshments will also be served.
