A wine and cheese reception with a taste of Spanish ballet will be the highlight of Encanto Español, a dance concert scheduled for Friday, Feb. 28 and Saturday, March 1 at the Laredo Little Theater.
Featuring students in the Texas A&M International University Classical Spanish Ballet Troupe, the concert will present from a variety of Spanish dances ranging from classical Spanish ballet and traditional flamenco to new flamenco. Tickets are $15 per person and proceeds will support scholarships and travel efforts of TAMIU dance students.
The wine and cheese reception will start at 7 p.m. Dance performance begins at 8 p.m.
Bede Leyendecker, TAMIU assistant professor of dance and Classical Spanish Ballet Troupe director, said the size of the Laredo Little Theater will allow the public to enjoy an intimate atmosphere while watching beautiful dance pieces being presented on stage.
Among the 16 dance pieces will be Baila Maria by Alabina; Cuba Libre, by Patterson; Alegrías, traditional flamenco; La Boda de Luis Alonzo, by Giménez; La Vida Breve, by Manuel de Salla; Best of the Gipsy Kings Medley, by the Gipsy Kings; and Tanguillo de Cádiz, traditional flamenco.
