Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) Binational Center and Turismed invite the public to a presentation in Spanish entitled, "Hoy date permiso de ser felíz" (Give Yourself the Permission to be Happy Today), featuring Dr. Ramón Durón Ruiz.

The presentation, free and open to the public, will be Tuesday, Oct. 20 at 6:30 p.m. in the Senator Judith Zaffirini Student Success Center, room 101.

Dr. Durón Ruiz publishes a newspaper column in México entitled, "El Filósofo de Güémez." He is also a motivational speaker as well as an uthor of 25 books.

El Filósofo de Güémez is a controversial figure as his identity is attributed to different people in the municipality of Güémez, Tamaulipas, México. Also, some feel his existence is a myth.

This character exposes the logical and straightforward way of thinking of people from rural areas and villages in the northeast of México, specifically, the state of Tamaulipas, the adjacent part of Nuevo León and the region known as Huasteca.

Stories of the “philosopher” permeate between myth and legend. Over the years, his story has been told among many.

Turismed is an organization in Nuevo Laredo, México whose mission is to promote Nuevo Laredo as a regional tourism destination through health services.
