Get on the "Road to Rome" this Saturday!

Get your running shoes ready for the ‘Road to Rome’ 5K run at Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) Saturday, Feb. 6 at 7:30 a.m. at the TAMIU Soccer Field.

The event will help raise funds for members of the Model United Nations Society of South Texas (MUNSST) who are planning to participate in the Harvard World Model United Nations (WorldMUN) conference in Rome, Italy.

Registration is $30. Children nine and under participate free. Winners must be registered. Medals will be awarded to the first 25 male and female runners to finish.

Esther Cavazos, MUNSST president, said the 5K run is a fun way for the community to participate in a healthy activity and support a worthy cause

“These events should be considered as entertainment for couples, families and friends who want to get together, walk on campus and enjoy beautiful scenery while taking part in a healthy activity,” said Cavazos.

Cavazos said the 10 MUNSST members have been preparing diligently for WorldMUN during the past few by researching topics related to world politics and affairs.

WorldMUN is the most internationally diverse college-level Model UN conference, and the largest outside of North America. Every year more than 2,500 currently enrolled university students from over 115 countries attend WorldMUN in different locations around the world. Past locations include Puebla, México; Geneva, Switzerland; Beijing, China; Belo Horizonte, Brazil; Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt; Taipei, Taiwan; Singapore, and Vancouver, Canada.

Through lively and informed debate, exciting social events, and a unique conference spirit, the WorldMUN experience reaches across cultures and borders to inspire both cooperation and friendship.
