TAMIU's VITA program is offering assistance with tax form preparation.

Get your 2015 taxes prepared for free at the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program at Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) underway through Thursday, March 10 in the TAMIU Student Center (SC).

The site is open from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m., Monday – Friday in SC 104, formerly DustyXpress.

“We will have volunteers on site who are available to do taxes for individuals and families who meet the qualifications set by the VITA program,” said Diana Varela, site coordinator.

Varela said the program has set big goals for the site.

“VITA is essential to the economic development of Laredo, and the TAMIU site offers a chance for students and their families to get their taxes prepared for free. This year I want to do at least 200,000 returns,” said Varela.

Last year, VITA locations around Laredo were responsible for securing $11.3 million in tax returns and $1.1 million in tax preparation fees totaling $12.4 million in savings for those who took advantage of the service.

“This year we are hoping to increase the number of returns prepared at TAMIU and increase the millions of dollars saved for Laredoans,” Varela said.
