A Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) administrator has been elected Governing Board Treasurer for the National College Testing Association (NCTA).

Alejandro Martínez, TAMIU’s director of Testing, will begin his three-year seat this August.

NCTA is a non-profit organization of testing professionals working in post-secondary institutions, in companies with test-related products and services, and in other professional testing venues. It was organized in 2000 through the merging of several regional associations.

Martínez said he has been a member of the NCTA since 2005 and believes the group provides valuable networking, resources and professional growth.

“Being a member of NCTA promotes professionalism and quality in the administration of testing services and programs, including issues relating to test administration, test accessibility, test development, test scoring, and assessment. The organization maintains a comprehensive set of standards for testing centers administering paper and pencil and computer-based examinations, as well as a compilation of useful operational guidelines guaranteeing that there is uniformity throughout testing centers,” Martínez said.

Martínez said he’s honored to be able to provide a “Texas and TAMIU” voice to the NCTA.

“Serving on the board will foster better relationships with the NCTA membership as well as corporate sponsors such as ETS, College Board and ACT. Serving will give TAMIU and Texas a voice when establishing testing protocol among the association and corporate world,” he added.

A TAMIU administrator for over 19 years, Martínez holds his BA in English with a minor in Political Science from TAMIU. At the Testing Center, he coordinates all testing activities including a variety of online and paper exams, including ACT, TSI,TExES, COMPASS, ACCUPLACER, AP, CLEP, GMAT and GRE and proctored exams. The Testing Center is operated by University College as part of its array of academic support services available to TAMIU students.

According to its website, NCTA is dedicated to the promotion of professionalism and quality in the administration of testing services and programs, including issues relating to test administration, test accessibility, test development, test scoring, and assessment. It has more than 2,000 members at over 650 post-secondary institutions and 50+ corporations, and certification agencies in the United States and Canada. NCTA maintains a comprehensive set of standards for testing centers administering paper and pencil and computer-based examinations, as well as a compilation of useful operational guidelines.

Its mission focuses on enhancing professional testing practices, offering opportunities for professional development, encouraging professional support activities and advancing collaborative efforts among testing professionals, testing companies, and other policy-making agencies.
