The Festival was a semester highlight.

The winners of the Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) Cervantes and Shakespeare @ 400 Sonnet Contest recently recited their winning entries for the University’s podcast.

Festival organizers, Dr. Ula Klein, TAMIU assistant professor of English, and Dr. Lola Norris, TAMIU assistant professor of Spanish, announced the winners of the month-long contest. Josue Tapia, senior English major, won first place, and honorable mentions went to Tirza Guerra, senior English major, and Anna Morales, freshman English major.

This year marks the 400th anniversary of the passing of two literary giants: Miguel de Cervantes from Spain, and William Shakespeare from England. The works of these two men have inspired generations of readers from the 16th century onwards.

The month-long celebration of Cervantes and Shakespeare included performances of Shakespeare’s plays, readings from Don Quixote, film screenings, and special lectures.
