TAMIU Career Services Director Keynotes CBP’s National Black History Month Observance

Laredo’s first African-American chairwoman of the Laredo Chamber of Commerce, Texas A&M International University’s (TAMIU) director of Career Services Cassandra Wheeler, will deliver the keynote address at the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) special observance of National Black History Month 2017.

The observance is scheduled from 9 – 11 a.m. at Laredo Community College’s Kazen Student Center on Friday, Feb. 24, 2017. Wheeler’s speech topic will be “The Value of an Education.”  This year’s observance theme is “The Crisis in Black Education.”

Wheeler become Chamber of Commerce chairwoman this past October, 2016. She has been volunteering and serving the Chamber since 2005.

She joined TAMIU in 2003.  Prior to becoming the University’s director of Career Services, she served as human resources specialist at TAMIU and program coordinator at West Virginia University’s Department of Human Resources.

She holds a B.S. in Communications from Shepherd College, an M.S. in Public Administration, and an M.S. in Industrial Relations, both from West Virginia University.
