TAMIU recognizes select high school seniors annually at the Academic Excellence Awards.

Several high school seniors were honored by Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) at its recent “Academic Excellence Awards” Ceremony in the Student Center Ballroom.

“The Academic Excellence Awards Ceremony is an annual event honoring academically talented senior high school students in Texas who have gained admission to TAMIU and are in the top 10 percent of their graduating class,” explained Rafael E. Contreras, coordinator, TAMIU Division of Student Success.

“TAMIU recognized more than 150 students for this honorary award—many earning the TAMIU Freshmen Merit Scholarship ranging from $16,000 up to $32,000,” added Contreras.

Only students who have gained admission to TAMIU and are in the top 10 percent of their graduating class are invited to the event.

“This event honors students who have earned high academic achievement during their four years in high school and have successfully gained admission to TAMIU by January,” said Contreras.

Early planning is imperative for students to be awarded competitive scholarships, Contreras noted.

The community will have an opportunity to further explore TAMIU, its programs and scholarships at the upcoming “Discover TAMIU,” Saturday, April 1.

“Discover TAMIU” is a day-long University-wide open house offering students of all ages, their families and community members the opportunity to experience TAMIU.
