An inter-university and international literary seminar that was delivered virtually through videoconference system from Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) last year will be repeated this Spring starting Friday, March 31 at 10:00 am at Western Hemispheric Trade Center, room 224.

The seminar includes three sessions with participants from Paris, México City and Laredo attending via videoconference. A direct transmission of the seminar can be viewed at https://youtu.be/1U7XSULkooc

The seminar, entitled, “Plural Writings: Theory and Praxis of the Short Novel,” will delve into the study of Spanish American short novels or nouvelles. It will be conducted in Spanish and draw both scholars and students from Paris-Sorbonne University, Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM), and Texas A&M International University.

The first installment of the seminar for this Spring will be on Friday, March 31, at 10 a.m. (México, Laredo)/ 5 p.m. (Paris).  Other dates include Friday, May 5, and Friday, June 9, both at 10 a.m., local time. All sessions will take place in Western Hemispheric Trade Center, room 224.

The series is free and open to scholars, professors, graduate students and university seniors of Spanish/ Hispanic Studies, and to those interested in this topic.

Dr. José Cardona-López, TAMIU professor of Spanish and Spanish American Literature, will spearhead the transmission from TAMIU. His colleagues and co-organizers from Paris and México City will join in virtually.

"The first season of this inter-university seminar we had in Spring 2016 was a technological and very useful scenario to demonstrate the current interest in the study of short novels, or nouvelles, as they are known in French," said Dr. Cardona-López. "Its three sessions were broadcast live through the TV Chanel of Institute of Philological Investigations, UNAM, which offered a setting to interact with participants and academics from other universities from Europe and Spanish America," he added.

“The sessions will include an introduction of a keynote presenter and presentation of academic papers on the study of Spanish American short novels,” Dr. Cardona-López said.

“The idea is for our students to have an opportunity to be exposed to international academic seminars such as these. We are thrilled to be able to host an event of this magnitude without the need for our students and those  interested in this topic to leave Laredo.  They can participate and attend the seminar here,” Cardona-López concluded.
