Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) is quickly becoming a destination University and a higher education institution of choice for prospective students as indicated by three recent national and state rankings.

Online source Zippia (zippia.com), ranked TAMIU No. 3 among the Top 10 Best Colleges for Economic Mobility in the nation.

The full ranking can be found here: (https://www.zippia.com/advice/best-colleges-economic-mobility-state/).

In the Zippia ranking, TAMIU was the only Texas University that figured in the Top 10 category.

According to Zippia, which utilized data from the Equality of Opportunity project and the Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System, two criteria were used to determine the best schools for economic mobility.

One included the mobility rate or the percentage of students who have parents in the bottom 20 percent of the income distribution and reach the top 20 percent of the income distribution. The second looked at upper-tail mobility rate, or the percentage of students who have parents in the bottom 20 percent of the income distribution and reach the top 1 percent of the income distribution.

“We also used the Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS) database to find out what they (graduates) were earning six and 10 years after they graduated – but this didn’t get as much weight in the rankings, since it’s all about mobility,” the site states.

TAMIU ranked prominently in another ranking, placing No. 10 among the Top 20 Best Online Colleges in Texas, according to Online College Plan (onlinecollegeplan.com).

The full ranking can be found here: (http://www.onlinecollegeplan.com/texas-colleges/)

“Two of TAMIU’s most popular online degree programs are the Master of Business Administration with a Concentration in International Business (MBA), and their Master of Public Administration (MPA) programs, both of which have brought the school a lot of national recognition as a provider of quality and highly comprehensive degree programs,” the site states.

Top 50 Online Hispanic-Serving Higher Learning Institutions

Online College Plan arrived at its rankings by researching Universities with 50% freshmen retention rates and 50% graduation rates, the site states.

Also, recently, TAMIU ranked No. 34 out of the Top 50 Online Hispanic-Serving Higher Learning Institutions, according to Online College Plan.

TAMIU outranked two universities in The Texas A&M University System, including Texas A&M University (TAMU) Corpus Christi and TAMU Kingsville and a total of four other Texas universities, including Our Lady of the Lake University, The University of Texas (UT) at San Antonio, UT El Paso and UT Rio Grande Valley.

“For Hispanic students, attending a school that is welcoming of their ethnicity and culture can be critical criteria – for both distance learning students and traditional on-campus students – and due to this, we have ranked the very best online schools particularly for Hispanic students,” the site states.

Each of the schools ranked are known as Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSI) -- a higher education providing institution that participates in a federally-funded program designed to assist colleges or universities operating in the United States that attempt to help first-generation, majority low-income Hispanic students.

According to Online College Plan, the site used two criteria, universities with 50% student retention rates and those with 50% student graduation rates.

“We used these criteria to find the best schools possible and then compared our results against the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities’ (HACU) list of 269 Member Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSIs) to find the best schools for Hispanic students,” the site states, “The resources utilized in this ranking are HACU’s list for which schools are an HSI, National Center for Education Statistics’ (NCES) and the U.S. News and World Report’s databases for each school’s retention rates and graduation rates.”
