In the wake of the devastation caused by Hurricane Harvey, Texans everywhere are wondering what can THEY do to contribute to the recovery of our friends and neighbors.

Texas A&M International University students are no different, and they quickly organized drives on campus, including filling a trailer destined to help people at Victoria College.  Other drives and donation events by student clubs and organizations have also taken place.

This past week, Texas Governor Greg Abbott announced that The Texas A&M University System Chancellor John Sharp would lead the State’s rebuilding effort.  Chancellor Sharp will chair the newly-formed Governor’s Commission to Rebuild Texas.

The Commission will marshal State resources to help all Harvey-struck communities to assess their needs and be their advocate at State and federal levels.  The Commission will also likely draw on the broad capabilities of the State’s emergency management officials.

Abbott said Sharp’s charge was simple: “Rebuild Texas ahead of schedule, under budget and with a friendly smile of constant consumer service.”

Chancellor Sharp needs the help of all Dustdevils and their friends to help Rebuild Texas and bring back our State.
