TAMIU Nursing Program Ranked One of Best in Central US by Nurse Journal ORG
Texas A&M International University’s (TAMIU) College of Nursing and Health Sciences’ Dr. F. M. Canseco School of Nursing has been nationally ranked as one of the best in the Central US by Nurse Journal ORG.
Nurse Journal ORG evaluated over 754 nursing schools on 20 metrics, sorting them into five categories: affordability, convenience, quality, satisfaction and value.
With that in mind, the Canseco School of Nursing was ranked 33rd and earned an overall score of 96+.
Dean of the Canseco School of Nursing, Dr. Glenda Walker, said the ranking is an affirmation for students and faculty.
“We pride ourselves on building a program that offers students distinct learning and experience opportunities and, most importantly, attractive employment options. We’re pleased that this ranking group recognized how our faculty delivers on these measurables, as affirmed by this positive ranking. We were especially proud that our program outranked larger, more established programs at larger schools in larger cities,” Dr. Walker said.
She noted that the Canseco School of Nursing has expanded its program offerings and faculty. The School had a historic enrollment this fall and spring.
“Our program expansion is a direct reflection of the need for nurses in our employment region, so we’ve added faculty to be able to provide students with the best preparation to earn their Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing,” she said.
“We’re happy to be able to expand our offerings to students, providing them with an opportunity to earn the entry-level standard of education for the nursing profession. Our students are remarkable and upon graduation, routinely have multiple job offers,” Walker added.
This Fall and Spring, the TAMIU Nursing Program saw its largest enrollment in its history -- 120 students -- a 20% increase in enrollment. The School uses a two-time admission cycle, with 60 students admitted each semester.
The School of Nursing offers a Master of Science in Nursing, Family Nurse Practitioner program (MSN-FNP) and a Master of Science in Nursing Administration (MSN-ADM) focused on the critical role of Nursing in Health Care Management.
Nurses with graduate degrees as a Family Nurse Practitioner are able to assess, diagnose, and manage clients across the lifespan, in collaboration with other health care professionals. Those with the MSN-ADM are focused on the critical role of Nursing in Health Care Management.
