An opportunity to raise awareness about and explore careers in communication will be the focus of Texas A&M International University’s (TAMIU) COMM Day 2018, Wednesday, March 28 from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m.

The annual event is hosted by TAMIU's College of Arts and Sciences, department of Psychology and Communication, and will be held on the Student Center Rotunda second floor, with panel discussions in both the Student Center, room 236 and Western Hemispheric Trade Center, room 104.  COMM Day 2018 is open to the public and free of charge.

Organizer Dr. Ariadne González, TAMIU assistant professor of Communication, said the event’s purpose is two-fold.

“We want to raise awareness about the different areas of study and the various career paths in the Communication field that are possible at TAMIU.  We’ll provide information to our students about our BA in Communication and our MA in Communication degrees,  as well as additional program initiatives,” Dr. González explained.

The Day’s panel discussions will provide additional real-world insight, she noted.

“Our panels are comprised of Communication professionals who will be discussing their work experience and how to obtain a job in the Communication field.  Following our panels, we will also be hosting a Career/Internship Fair from 1 - 3 p.m. at the Student Center Rotunda, second floor. TAMIU communication students will also be  screening their short films from 2:00 - 3:00 p.m. in SC 236,” González concluded.

Among panelists scheduled are Ryan Bailey, Ann Hutyra and Jerry Garza, KGNS; Blasita Lopez, City of Laredo; Jorge Quijano, Laredo Energy Arena; Arturo Serna, Guerra Communication; Iris Vasquez, Office of Senator Judith Zaffirini; Carmen Rendon, United Independent School District Office of Communications; Melissa Santillana, Laredo Morning Times; Nicole Romanos, Harmony Schools and Rolando Santos, TAMIU Office of Public Relations, Marketing, and Information Services.

TAMIU Communication faculty will also present their research in progress, as well as their creative projects.
