Texas A&M International University’s (TAMIU) Campus Ally Network (CAN) first-ever Pride Week at TAMIU will come to an end Friday.

The Pride Week has encompassed a variety of activities including an information fair, health testing, Safe Zone crash course, a second annual Drag Show and a first-ever Pride Walk and Pride Fest.

The remaining  schedule is as follows:

Friday, May 4 – Pride Walk, 5:30 – 6 p.m. starting at the Freedom Circle followed by Pride Fest, 6 – 9 p.m., Senator Judith Zaffirini Student Success Center Green with fun, games and food sales hosted by various TAMIU student organizations. Because of inclement weather, the brief walk will continue, but the Pride Fest will be moved indoors to the Senator Judith Zaffirini Student Success Center Lobby.

CAN, an official TAMIU student organization, staged its first drag event last year to a sold-out audience.

As the Human Rights Campaign has noted: “Pride events are held nationwide in cities large and small and are often the only occasion to be out and proud in one’s community. Pride festivals and parades are a

celebration of the progress the LGBTQ community has made, but also a time to recognize the distance left to achieve full equality.”

For additional information and/or to purchase presale tickets for the drag show, email CAN’s president JoséMaria Villarreal, Jr.  at josem_villarreal@dusty.tamiu.edu.
