Over 150 Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) undergraduate and graduate students presented 40 individual and team projects at the Spring 2018 Service Learning Expo Tuesday, April 17 in the Student Center Ballroom.

Student projects represented 10 TAMIU service-learning courses. Admission was free and open to the public.

Dr. Marcela Uribe, Service Learning Center’s Learning Resources coordinator, said service-learning is an educational experience in which students participate in a TAMIU credit-bearing course paired with an organized community service component.

“Key to service-learning are guided and structured reflections that support learning by enhancing course content comprehension, integrating academic and service concepts, and developing civic/social justice responsibility,” Dr. Uribe said.

Among project community partners this year were the Boys & Girls Club of Laredo, PILLAR, and Bethany House, she said.
