TAMIU Presents 28th Annual University Life Awards

Outstanding students, faculty advisors and programs and administrators recognized at Texas A&M International University’s 28th Annual University Life Awards honoring remarkable leadership abilities as well as world, community and campus volunteerism this year.

The evening event was held in the Student Center Ballroom and was organized and presented by the University’s Office of Student Orientation, Leadership and Engagement (SOLE).

University Life Award recipients are as follows:

  • Student Organization Advisor of the Year:
    • Dr. Stephen Sears, Dean, A. R. Sanchez, Jr. School of Business
  • Student Organization of the Year:     
    • Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers
  • Changemaking Student Organization of the Year:
    • SGA Political Action Committee
  • David T. Newman Changemaker Award:
    • Rebecca Alvarado
  • Global Citizen Award:
    • Ana Karen González
  • Outstanding Community Service Award:
    • Student Nurses’ Association
  • Freshman Excellence Award:
    • Dana Amador
  • Sophomore of the Year Award:
    • Geysira Vela
  • Leader of the Year:
    • Rotceh Vazquez Camacho
  • Graduate Student of the Year:
    • Augustine Tarkom
  • Honors Student of the Year:
    • Karyme Castillo Castro
  • TAMIU Wall of Fame:
    • Dr. Thomas R. Mitchell, María Leticia Cruz, Jorge Chacón, Alicia Huerta
  • Vice President’s Award for Outstanding Service to the University Community:
    • Jesús “Conrad” Galaviz, Derly Rojo, Agustín Guzmán, III, Preston Salazar, Mayela Villarreal, Ilse Rodríguez
  • Senator Judith Zaffrini Scholarship and Leadership Award:
    • Mayela Villarreal.

Campus Activities Board (CAB) Awards were presented to:

  • Most Valuable Cabbie: Samantha Garza
  • CAB Rookie of the Year: Elena Cano

Student Government Association Awards were presented to:

  • Officer of the Year: Agustín Guzmán, III
  • Officer of the Year: Carolina Ramírez
  • Project of the Year: Period Project
  • Event of the Year: Party at the Polls Fall 2022.

TAMIU is home to 100 student clubs and organizations and creates a vibrant student life with leadership and service opportunities that distinguishes the TAMIU experience for some 8,500 students.
