Bits and Pieces’ Exhibit Opens March 8 at TAMIU

TAMIU Art Reception Set March 8

Texas A&M International University will be hosting an art reception for Verónica M. Fernández's exhibit “Bits and Pieces: Digital Translations,” Thursday, March 8, from 5 - 8 p.m. at the Center for the Fine and Performing Arts' Gallery.

This event is free and open to the public.

Fernández credits her interest in science and her love of taking things apart to a defining moment in her life when her parents gave her a microscope for her sixth birthday. She recalls looking at common, boring substances through that microscope and finding that there was more to each substance. "Each substance had its own “Singular little worlds existing everywhere,” she reveals in her artist's statement.

Fernández explains that ever since making those early discoveries, she has been interested in taking a closer look at things to find different perspectives. She approaches each as a process of investigation. This process is found throughout her assortment of work, including drawings, paintings, sculptures, installations and, most recently, digital media.

Over the past three years, Fernández has been creating her art through a keyboard, a mouse, a stylus and monitor. She still finds similarity in the digital process to her previous approaches to painting and drawing.

The exhibit will be on display from March 8 to April 5, 2007.  Gallery hours of operation are from 1 to 5 p.m., Monday through Thursday or by appointment. Please call 326.2654 for an appointment.
