Chicano Poet Trinidad Sánchez at TAMIU Writers Series March 10

Meet internationally known Chicano poet Trinidad Sánchez Jr. at Texas A&M International University's "Voices in the Monte" Writers Series, Thursday, March 10. His "Talk on Craft" will be held at 11 a.m. in the Western Hemispheric Trade Center, room 116, and he will present a public reading of his works at 7:30 p.m. in Bullock Hall, room 201.

Sánchez has more than 20 years experience teaching and presenting his work across the U.S. and is an advocate of the public school system. He has written several collections of poetry including the bestseller Why Am I So Brown? and Poems by Father & Son, a collection by Sánchez and his poet father, Trinidad V. Sánchez. His work is also featured on several Web sites. In 2005 he and his poet wife Regina Chávez y Sánchez moved to San Antonio, Texas, where he is involved in the local poetry community.

"Voices in the Monte" is intended to provide an opportunity for students and the public to visit with local, regional and national writers who share their personal vision of writing and finding their voice. The Series encourages interaction among people from the University, the city and the surrounding area with visiting writers. It is made possible by funding provided by TAMIU and a Title V Grant.

Writing Center hours are from 8:30 a.m. - 8:30 p.m., Monday - Thursday; 8:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. on Fridays; 2 - 6 p.m. Sunday. The Center is closed Saturdays.
