TAMIU College of Arts and Sciences Conference Underway
Texas A&M International University graduate and undergraduate students
are joining visiting scholars for research presentations at the Annual
College of Arts and Sciences Academic Conference April 15-16 at the TAMIU
Student Center.
The Conference is sponsored by the College of Arts and Sciences and
Pi Sigma Alpha, the national Political Science Honorary, which has also
provided funding support and prizes.
It begins Thursday, April 15 at 1 p.m. and continues till 8:15 p.m.
in the Student Center Auditorium and Western Hemispheric Trade Center
rooms 103 and 104.
Over 40 presentations are scheduled in panel fashion with topics ranging
from studies of human life and behavior and gender representations to
scientific models demystified and probability theory explored.
Conference organizer Dr. Deborah Blackwell, TAMIU assistant professor
of history, said the Conference affords students a remarkable research
experience.
"This provides students in all disciplines throughout our College
with a forum for presenting their research, a chance to experience an
academic conference and could also act as a catalyst to encourage their
interest in research and additional study. They'll also benefit from presentations
by visiting academics who will join us for the Conference," Dr. Blackwell
explained.
Guest keynote presenters include Dr. Luigi Manzetti, a Southern Methodist
University comparative political scientist with a specialty in Latin America
at 1 p.m. on Thursday and Dr. Charles Chui, who will offer a presentation
on mathematics and technology at 2 p.m. on Friday.
The Conference continues Friday, April 16 from 10:45 a.m. to 7:45 p.m.
in the Student Center with a closing reception scheduled at 8 p.m.
