Garcia Family Provides TAMIU Student Scholarship Gift
Four Zapata County students will benefit from the generosity of a Laredo
family that has provided a scholarship gift of $5000 to the Texas A&M
International University . The Galo Garcia Family has provided
the Gift, known as the Galo Garcia Scholarship. Four scholarships will
be awarded beginning in the Fall of 1996. The Galo Garcia Scholarship
will be awarded to students planning on attending or currently
attending Texas A&M International University who are graduates of the
Zapata Independent School District and who have a primary residence
in the Zapata County area. Zapata County natives who maintain
active ranching and business interests in the area, the Garcia Family
said they wanted their Scholarship Gift to assist students in the area. "
We are happy to be able to provide this Gift and help students from
Zapata County realize their educational goals at Texas A&M International
University. We would encourage others to join in supporting
our University through similar gifts or support," said Galo Garcia.
Joe Garcia, Texas A&M International University Interim President, said
the University is grateful for the support provided by the Garcia Family. "
While the State of Texas has been most generous to Texas' newest
four-year University, the need for scholarships is critical. We
are especially happy to be able to provide scholarship assistance to
Zapata County residents, many of whom have attended and graduated from
our University over the last 26 years," he explained.
Criteria and application procedures for the Galo Garcia Scholarship will
be forthcoming from the University's Office of Financial Aid.
