Fiesta de Mariachi Underway at TAMIU This Weekend
Young mariachi superstars to be will have an opportunity to compete
for middle and high school honors this weekend at the 6th Annual Fiesta
de Mariachi at Texas A&M International University.
After a day of workshops, clinics and informative sessions, the Middle
School Competition will be held in the TAMIU Center for the Fine and Performing
Arts Recital Hall from 7 - 9 p.m.
On Saturday, the High School Competition will take place at the Laredo
Entertainment Center from 10 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. An awards ceremony will
follow from approximately 6:30-7:30 p.m. Admission to all competitions
is open to the public and free of charge.
After the naming of the High School Competition winner, an exhibition
concert by TAMIU's award-winning Mariachi Internacional will precede the
special benefit performance by the famed Mariachi de Tecatitlán
at 8 p.m. Proceeds benefit student scholarships in the fine and performing
arts.
Tickets for the Mariachi Vargas concert are available for sale from
the LEC box office or ticketmaster.com. Special group rate information
