Young Dancer Concert at TAMIU Sunday

Young Dancer Concert
Sunday, May 25 at TAMIU

The community is invited to spend an afternoon at the Texas A&M International University 2008 Young Dancer Recital, Sunday, May 25 at 3 p.m. in the TAMIU Center for the Fine and Performing Arts (CFPA) Recital Hall.

Admission is free and open to the public, thanks to the support of TAMIU’s College of Arts and Sciences’ department of fine and performing arts.

“The Young Dancer Recital will feature our children’s combo classes with music from Disney for the ballet selection, a variety of 50’s music for tap and a variety of classical Spanish music for their work in this genre. The children have worked very hard for the past few months to put these pieces together,” said Bede Leyendecker, chair, department of fine and performing arts.

“The teen and adult classes will present a variety of pieces ranging from ballet through hip-hop. Surely there are offerings that will appeal to a wide range of audience members,” Leyendecker added.

The Young Dancer Program is a community-based program that holds classes from September-May, offering children from ages two to 11 a variety of classes including ballet, tap and Spanish dance and teen and adult classes in ballet, tap, hip-hop, jazz, Spanish dance and belly dancing.

“This program is presented as a means of celebrating our work over the past year with a great group of students,” she said.

For more information, please contact Leyendecker at 326.2649, visit offices in CFPA 217 or e-mail bleyendecker@tamiu.edu.
