TAMIU Slates Graduate Education
Research Conference June 9
Texas A&M International University’s College of Education will host its summer Graduate Education Research Conference Friday, June 9 from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.
The Conference theme is “Transforming Public Schools: Challenges for Improvement.”
It will be held in the Student Center at TAMIU.
Keynote speaker for the event is Dr. Wayne Pierce, executive director of the Equity Center in Austin. His address will be provided at noon.
Dr. Pierce is currently the executive director of the Equity Center, an organization of over 650 low and mid-wealth districts, dedicated to improving funding and tax equity in Texas public schools.
The Equity Center is the largest research and advocacy organization of its kind in the nation and the only Texas education association to represent more than 3.5 million school children who live in school districts requiring state assistance to supplement revenue raised with local property taxes.
Pierce’s experience has included service as a high school math teacher and coach, principal, assistant superintendent, superintendent and university faculty member.
He holds his doctorate in Education from Baylor University. His MA in Mathematics and BS in Education with a major in mathematics were both earned at Southwest Texas State University.
Advance registration fee for the Conference is $25. Registration at the door will be $30.
