TAMIU HR Specialist Earns Certification

human resources benefits specialist, recently earned certification as
a Professional in Human Resources, a title bestowed by the Human Resource
Certification Institute that requires passing a rigorous examination demonstrating
a mastery of the body of knowledge in the field. (photo)
Elizabeth N. Martínez, associate vice president for administration,
said Wheeler's certification will be an asset to TAMIU and the community.
"Her accomplishment contributes to the overall success of this
department. We are proud she has a commitment to her profession and that
this commitment will allow us to provide the best service to our employees
and the community as a whole in our human resources mission," said
Martínez.
She explained Wheeler is now one of three certified human resource professionals
at TAMIU. The other two are Sandra V. Peña, associate director
of Human Resources, who earned her PHR certification in 2001, and Martínez,
who earned her Senior Professional in HR in 2003.
Wheeler joined TAMIU in July 2003. Previously she worked as a human
resources specialist at Doctor's Hospital and program coordinator at West
Virginia University Health Sciences Center. She earned her Masters of
Industrial Labor Relations and her Masters of Pubic Administration &
Health Care Administration Certificate from the West Virginia University.
