Summer Camp at TAMIU Offers Gung Fu for Kids
This summer children and teenagers can get their kicks in a new way...learning
Chinese Martial Arts in a special summer camp being offered by Texas A&M
International University's Gung Fu Club July 12-Aug. 5.
The Club, an official TAMIU student organization, will offer two camps.
The first is for children ages 6-12 and will meet Monday-Thursday from
9:30 a.m. - 10:30 a.m. on the east balcony of TAMIU's Kinesiology and
Convocation Building.
The second group is for teenagers from ages 13-19 and will meet Monday-Thursday
from 4-5 p.m. The camps are limited to 25 students each.
Programs for both camps cover basic Chinese Martial Arts training and
no previous experience is necessary. The camp fee is $50 per individual
and each participant must present a physician-certified physical exam
as a requirement for registration. A liability release form must also
be completed.
Funds generated will support events organized by the Gung Fun Club for
the University and community at large.
Instructor Felipe de Jesús Pantoja will be assisted by trained
members of the TAMIU Gung Fu Club.
The camp schedule includes Chinese boxing, Western boxing, kicking techniques,
throwing, circuit and group activities.
Also part of each camp day is aerobic and muscle-strengthening exercises
adapted to both children and teenagers groups.
