Welcome Week at TAMIU
Get ready for Fall 2006 at Texas A&M
International University with TAMIU's Welcome Week, a week's worth of fun
and entertainment on campus scheduled Monday, Aug. 28 - Thursday. Aug. 31.
"Welcome Week" is designated
as the official welcome period for enrolled TAMIU students to get the Fall
Semester underway at TAMIU. Events for the week include recreational activities,
a roving magician, planetarium shows, and the Kinesiology Expansion Groundbreaking.
One of the week's highlights includes
a performance by NBC's "Last Comic Standing" contestant and member
of the U.S. Paralympic Soccer Team, Josh Blue. His self-deprecating
humor often revolves around living with cerebral palsy and how he deals with
it and defies stereotypes.
He encourages people to overcome their
preconceived notions about disabled people with his jokes. A quick-witted
comic, Blue began to perform stand-up while pursing a BA degree in creative
writing from Evergreen State College in Olympia, Wash.
He has appeared on Comedy Central's "Mind
of Mecia" and has performed in college campuses and comedy clubs around
the country. Blue won the $10,000 Grand Prize at the Royal Flush Comedy Competition
at the 2004 Las Vegas Comedy Festival. This event is open to TAMIU students
