Mary Quiros' Watercolors
Display Coming to TAMIU
Make plans to attend Mary Quiros' Watercolors exhibit at Texas A&M International University Center for the Fine and Performing Arts Gallery. The exhibit will be on display from Monday, Sept. 5 until Wednesday, Oct. 5.
A native of Laredo, Quiros painted in oils and acrylics until 1977 when she found fluidity of expression in watercolor. She's been accepted into juried shows in Texas, Colorado, South Carolina, Missouri, and Kansas. Quiros has also displayed one of her watercolor pieces at the Contemporary Museum of Art in Nigata, Japan and has been featured in the Texas Watercolor Society publication, Fifty Years of Excellence and the summer edition of Watercolor Magazine. Her work has also been on display at the Laredo Center for the Arts.
In her artist's statement, Quiros says that having studied and having been influenced by various teaching masters, she finds she is inspired by the nature, form and music of her world.
"Traveling has opened a variety of new experiences that have found their expression in my work. Watercolor is a great joy for me. Time spent in reflection allows me to draw on what lies hidden in my subconscious and I strive to show in my work that watercolor can be bold, full of drama as well as fun. I have found that water media has endless possibilities by using different methods of interpretation. Experimentation with ink and wash, collage and dry brush allows me plenty of flexibility in the creative process of developing a work of art," continues her statement.
Quiros will be on campus to present a talk about her work and a printmaking demo Tuesday, Sept. 27, 1:30 p.m. to 3:15 p.m., in the CFPA Gallery.
A reception for the exhibit will be held Thursday, Sept. 8 from 5:30 - 8 p.m. in the CFPA Gallery.
Twenty percent of all sales will be donated to the TAMIU Visual Arts and the CFPA Gallery.
