The exhibit, "Perspectives: The Art of Nancy Bandy and Roxi McCloskey," brings well-respected artists to the people of Laredo. The Gallery will be open from 12:30 to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. An artists' reception will be held Thursday, September 2, to honor the talented women and allow guests to discuss the artwork with the creators.

Alma Haertlein, assistant professor of art, explained the two women were selected for their impact on TAMIU art professors.

"Roxi McCloskey was teaching at University of Texas, San Antonio while Janet Krueger, associate professor of art at TAMIU, and I were Masters of Fine Arts students. Nancy Bandy was a mentor of mine while I was at Victoria College," explained Haertlein, "Their work is representational, and is easily appreciated even by those who feel they don't know much about art."

She said each was well-respected in the art community, exhibiting and working on commissioned collections.

McCloskey has been a senior lecture at UTSA since 1992 and her work is in collections at the Texas State Capital in Austin and the San Antonio Jewish Community Center, among others, Haertlein said. In addition, she has exhibited her artwork at the Southwest School of Art & Craft, the Hunt Gallery and the Blue Star Art Space, all in San Antonio.

Haertlein said Bandy taught at Victoria College in Victoria, Texas until 1997 and has been featured in one-woman shows at the Edmund Craig Gallery in Ft. Worth and the Mayfair Gallery in Austin. Bandy was the winner of the 2004 drawing purchase award at the Del Mar Annual Drawing and Small Sculpture Exhibition in Corpus Christi. She was also affiliated with the Nueva Street Gallery in San Antonio.
