Velez Named RRAC Player of the Week

TAMIU's Velez Named RRAC Soccer
Player of the Week Aug. 29 - Sept. 4


Jazmin Velez of Texas A&M International University's women's soccer team has been named Red River Athletic Conference Soccer Player of the Week for Aug. 29-Sept. 4.

 Velez, a junior forward from El Paso, Texas, scored a pair of goals as TAMIU won one game and tied another last week. Against Oklahoma Baptist University, she booted in the Dustdevils' first goal of the game, leading to a 2-2 tie.

In the following match, she scored TAMIU's third goal to put the game out of reach in a 3-0 victory over UMHB. TAMIU is off to a 1-0-1 start following a 4-15 season last year.

 The Red River Athletic Conference is in its eighth year as an affiliated conference of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA).

Conference members include Bacone College (Okla.), Houston Baptist University (Texas), Huston-Tillotson College (Texas), Jarvis Christian College (Texas), Langston University (Okla.), Northwood University (Texas), Paul Quinn College (Texas), College of the Southwest (N.M.), Southwestern Assemblies of God University (Texas), Texas College, Texas A&M International University, University of Texas of the Permian Basin, Texas Wesleyan Univesity and Wiley College (Texas).
