Texas A&M International University Licenses University Planet's Academic Planning Suite

Campbell, CA, October 2, 2001 /Businesswire/

University Planet, Inc. has announced that Texas A&M International University has licensed its Academic Planning Suite (APS). Under the agreement, University Planet will host the solution in an ASP model for Texas A&M International University.

APS is comprised of the patent-pending College Academic Planner (CAP), the Educational Resource Manager (ERM), and the Schedule Conflict Manager (SCM).

The College Academic Planner (CAP) is the first technology of its kind, allowing students and advisors to create an on-line educational plan that pro-actively tracks academic progress. CAP maps major and degree requirements to specific choices of courses so that future semesters are planned with point and click ease. It automates the mechanics of course planning, streamlining and simplifying the advising process, making it more cost effective, interactive and easy.

The Educational Resource Manager (ERM) aggregates the individual student educational plans in CAP and provides the university administration an accurate demand forecast. This enables the university administration to better understand how many students plan to take what courses in which semester and how best to allocate resources to student demand. ERM reduces the costs of instruction by optimizing resource allocation and helping the university match supply with demand. It also increases student access to courses by helping the administration understand their future curriculum needs.

The Schedule Conflict Manager (SCM) automates course section selection for the student, troubleshooting conflicts between courses and personal student schedules. SCM can enable administrators to load-balance their course offering to minimize under- and over-enrolled classes.

"Planning is fundamental to any student's academic success. Unfortunately, there have not been many user-friendly technologies that comprehensively address a student's planning needs, until now," said Texas A&M International University's President, Dr. Ray Keck. "We are looking forward to working with University Planet to ensure student success at A&M International," he added.

"The nationwide average time to graduation is currently 5.5 years, and growing. University Planet's mission is to reverse this troubling trend and refocus students and university resources on timely completion of degrees," said Farid Mashayekh, Founder and President of University Planet. "We are happy to provide Texas A&M International University the tools it needs to implement Dr. Keck's vision for students' success," he added.
