Sports Tops at TAMIU This Weekend
It will be a big weekend for soccer at Texas A&M International University,
with TAMIU's teams hosting back-to-back Red River Athletic Conference
doubleheaders. Texas Wesleyan will visit Laredo on Friday before College
of the Southwest makes its way to town on Saturday. The TAMIU men are
1-0 in RRAC play, with an earlier blowout of Southwestern Assemblies,
while Friday's game will be the conference opener for the Dustdevil women.
Cross Country Notes
TAMIU's men's and women's cross country teams achieved their best team
finishes in the two-year history of the program at last weekend's Southwestern
Invitational. The men finished fourth out of eight teams and the women
finished fifth amongst nine teams ... Both cross country teams will compete
at the Texas State Classic this weekend in San Marcos.
Volleyball Notes
After playing only two matches over the last two weeks TAMIU will play
five road matches in three days beginning with Thursday's doubleheader
action against Mid American Bible and Southwestern Assemblies in Waxahachie.
The Dustdevils will then travel to Fort Worth for the RRAC Crossover Tournament,
where they will play Southwestern Assemblies again and College of the
Southwest on Friday and Texas Wesleyan on Saturday ... The rivalry between
TAMIU and Texas Wesleyan has been intense over the last two years, with
the all-time series standing at 2-2. TAMIU won both matches played between
the teams in 2002 while TWU took both matches last season. Texas Wesleyan
(12-2, 2-1 RRAC) is riding a six-game winning streak entering play this
week ... TAMIU has achieved a 10-game winning streak, the second longest
streak in the three-year history of the program. The Dustdevils won 14
straight in the middle of the 2002 season.
Men's Soccer Notes

loss to Incarnate Word. Several of those were spectacular saves against
an impressive Cardinals offense which out-shot the Dustdevils, 23-8 ...
Texas Wesleyan and College of the Southwest will both bring 2-0 conference
records into Laredo to face the Dustdevils. TWU (3-5-1 overall) has lost
three out of its last four games while CSW (5-3) has dropped two straight
games ... TAMIU is 1-1 all-time against TWU and 1-0 all-time against CSW.
The Dustdevils swept the two opponents last season on the road, winning
4-0 over College of the Southwest and 4-3 over Texas Wesleyan in a game
that TWU led 3-1 early in the second half.
Women's Soccer Notes
Texas Wesleyan will bring a 4-4-1 record into Friday's game with the
Dustdevils. TWU leads the all-time series over TAMIU, 2-0 ... College
of the Southwest will take a 6-4 overall record into Friday's game at
St. Mary's. CSW holds a 2-0 lead in the all-time series with TAMIU but
last season's game was tight, with College of the Southwest taking a 1-0
decision in New Mexico.
