Scholarship Benefit Fall Dance
Concerts at TAMIU Friday, Saturday
The 2010 Fall Dance Concert at Texas A&M International University takes to the stage this weekend with benefit performances scheduled Friday, Nov. 19 and Saturday, Nov. 20 at 8 p.m. at TAMIU's Center for the Fine and Performing Arts Theatre.
Admission is $5 per person, with free admission for children aged 10 and younger.
Proceeds benefit student scholarships and the dance program. Highlighting the concert is the naming of the second recipient of the Valeria Hernandez Memorial Scholarship.
Students will perform ballet, flamenco, jazz and modern, said Bede Leyendecker, department chair, fine and performing arts and dance professor.
“We’ll be presenting a broad expression of the evolution of dance including selections by four students who are dance minors completing their requirements for the Concert Choreography class. The program is highly varied. Our visiting instructor of dance, Holly Wooldridge, has also choreographed some impressive modern offerings entitled ‘Silence’ and ‘To/Away.’ ”
