‘The Harvest/La Cosecha’
Premieres at TAMIU Tonight

The Harvest movie posterAn acclaimed documentary film that profiles children who help harvest the nation’s food will premiere Thursday, Oct. 13 at Texas A&M International University.

“The Harvest/La Cosecha”  will be presented at 6:30 p.m. at TAMIU’s Center for the Fine and Performing Arts Recital Hall. Admission is free of charge and open to the public.

The award-winning 80-minute film is directed by U. Roberto Romano.  Executive producer is Eva Longoria. Both were the producers of the Academy Award-nominated film “War/Dance.”

The film’s promotional materials indicate the documentary provides an intimate glimpse into the lives of children who struggle to dream while working 12-14 hours a day, seven days a week to feed America.

“Every year there are more than 400,000 American children who are torn away from their friends, schools and homes to pick the food we all eat.  Zulema, Perla and Victor labor as migrant farm workers, sacrificing their own childhoods to help their families survive.  ‘The Harvest/La Cosecha’ profiles these three as they journey from the scorching heat of Texas’ onion fields to the winter snows of the Michigan apple orchards and back south to the humidity of Florida's tomato fields to follow the harvest,” press materials read.

The film’s debut is being hosted by Veronica E.  Burgoa, a TAMIU College of Education graduate student currently working on a Master’s Degree in Educational Administration. Burgoa is Migrant Program Coordinator for the United Independent School District.
