TAMIU Schedules ‘FACE’
Autism Conference Nov. 16

The Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) Autism Interventions Center will host a one-day Autism Conference on Friday, Nov. 16 at TAMIU’s Student Center.

The Family and Community Education for Autism (FACE) Conference will bring together a broad range of Autism Spectrum professionals who will offer informative presentations on current Autism research and areas of concern for Autism families, said Dr. Candace Baker, TAMIU associate professor and director of the Autism Interventions Center.

“We’ve taken special care to create a Conference that can provide vital information in a setting conducive to conversations and exploration with professionals dedicated to Autism awareness and understanding,” Dr. Baker explained.

The broad range of Conference topics underscore the broad range of Autism spectrum experiences, she said.

Among topics scheduled for presentation are:

“An Introduction to Behavior Analysis” – Dr. Berenice de la Cruz, Training and Research Director at the Autism Community Network of San Antonio.

“A Parent’s Guide to ARD Meetings” – Anissa N. Moore, Board certified Behavior Analyst, Autism Community Network.

“Behavior Strategies in the Home” – Olga B. Silva, Executive Director, One for Autism, Inc.

“Diet and Nutrition Supplementation Interventions for Children with Autism” – Kelly Barnhill, Director of the Nutrition Clinic, The Johnson Center for Health and Development, Austin

“Medical Status of Children with Autism” – Carmen Arroyo-Otero, M.D., Board certified Pediatrician and Consultant for The Johnson Center.

Registration fee for the Conference is $75 per person and $30 for students who present current student ID.   Breakfast and lunch are included with registration prior to November 9, 2012.  Onsite registration will be accepted on the day of the Conference.
