Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) received a much welcome gift this holiday season:  a scholarship gift of  $28,000 from the Mexican Consulate.

Texas A&M International University will benefit from a $28,000 gift supporting
student scholarships from the Instituto de los Mexicanos en el Exterior (IME) Becas Program. Making the announcement, back row, left to right, are Deputy Consul General of México, Juan José Martínez De la Rosa and TAMIU President, Dr. Ray Keck. Among students receiving scholarships are front, left to right, Rodman A. García, María Fernanda Martínez,Yadira Ramírez Ramírez and Tania Juan y Seva.

In ceremonies last week, six students were selected for scholarships awarded by Deputy Consul General of México, Juan José Martínez De la Rosa. 

The awards are made possible by the Instituto de los Mexicanos en el Exterior (IME) Becas Program, which provides financial support for Mexican students attending university here.

Students receiving the scholarships  and their majors are  Yadira Ramírez Ramírez, Psychology; María Martinez González, Criminal Justice; Verónica Hernández, Psychology; Kevin García, Psychology; Rodman A. García, Business Administration-Management and Tania Juan y Seva, Psychology.

TAMIU president Dr. Ray Keck lauded the gift and the collaborative spirit it represents.

“Since 2010, we have blessed by the generosity of the IME-Becas program which truly helps to underscore the international mission and scope of our campus.  I know our students are deeply appreciative of IME’s partnership and support of their studies.  This affirms their pursuit of higher education and helps to make it a more certain reality,” Dr. Keck said.

The Mexican government created the program in 2005 as a means to endorse academic development for Mexican immigrants who live in the United States.  The Consulate administers the program.
