TAMIU Hosts First Ever
‘Consent Week’ Feb. 9-13

Students at Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) will be able to participate in the first ever Consent Week, Monday, Feb. 9 – Friday, Feb. 13. The week of events kick off with the premiere of “Student Consent Video,” a video made by students for students, and concludes with the return of Eve Ensler's award-winning play, “The Vagina Monologues.”

Admission to “The Vagina Monologues” is $10. All proceeds benefit SCAN, Inc.’s SASI program and Casa Misericordia.

“The office of the associate vice president of Student Affairs will be hosting the first Consent Week as part of our efforts to continue raising awareness and educating the TAMIU community about Title IX, on and off-campus resources, and the importance of reporting incidents of sexual assault and sexual violence,” said San Juanita Perez, associate director, Student Success Services, and Title IX investigator.

Title IX, a segment of the Education Amendments of 1972, prohibits discrimination on the basis of gender from any education program or activity receiving federal financial assistance.

The schedule for “Consent Week” is as follows:

Monday, Feb. 9 – Events kick off with a press conference and premiere of “Student Consent Video” in the Student Center (SC) second floor rotunda at noon.

Tuesday, Feb. 10 – “What is Consent,” a letter writing campaign where students write short letters to their future selves defining consent, how to give it and how to receive it. It will be held in the SC rotunda, first floor, from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m.

Wednesday, Feb. 11 – “Information Fair” will be held in the SC rotunda, first floor, from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. During the “Information Fair,” Student Success Services, Student Counseling and Disability Services, Student Health Services, Student Conduct and Community Engagement, Safe Zone and Greek Council will distribute information.
