Each semester we offer a FIT class once a week to the TAMIU community and general community. You must be a Rec Sports member and/or currently enrolled student in Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) in order to participate in this class.
Students will learn the fundamentals of being a quality Fitness Instructor. Participants will adhere knowledge in instructor expectations, physical activity recommendations, posture, form and exercise technique, injury prevention, cardio and weight training, class and program design, equipment training, specific class techniques, nutrition basics, scope of practice, emergency response, keys to becoming a great instructor, participant connection, instructor cueing techniques, and much more! The student will be required to pick a mentor instructor. They must “shadow” classes in the fitness program of their choice: Toning intensive, Cardio intensive, Mind and Body, or Dance intensive programs. The student will be required to shadow each class consistently with their instructor mentor for the semester. At the end of the semester, the student will prepare a demo in order to audition for the opportunity to be a fitness instructor at the TAMIU Rec Center. FIT is offered at a first come first serve basis and upon availability of positions.
No experience necessary, but previous experience is beneficial. Bring a drive to commit and do your best. Sessions are ongoing throughout each semester. See current fitness schedules for dates & times.
