NARRATIVE/JUSTIFICATION FOR JUDGMENT OF COMPLIANCE

The institution has a clearly defined and published mission statement specific to the institution and appropriate to an institution of higher education, addressing teaching and learning, and where applicable, research and public service.

The Texas A&M International University Institutional Mission is as follows:

Texas A&M International University, a Member of The Texas A&M University System, is committed to the preparation of students for leadership roles in their chosen profession and in an increasingly complex, culturally diverse state, national, and global society. The University provides students with a learning environment anchored by the highest quality programs built on a solid academic foundation in the liberal arts and natural sciences. To fulfill its mission, the University offers baccalaureate and masters programs in the arts; humanities; business; education; physical, biological, and social sciences; and health professions, with authority for select doctoral programs. Programs focus on developing strong undergraduate and graduate offerings and progressive agenda for global study and understanding across all disciplines.

Through instruction, faculty and student research, and public service, Texas A&M International University is a strategic point of delivery for well-defined programs and services that improve the quality of life for citizens of the border region, the State of Texas, and national and international communities.

The Institutional Mission for Texas A&M International University was considered by The Texas A&M University System Board of Regents at its May 27-29, 1998 meeting. The documents were then submitted for consideration on the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board Agenda, April 23, 1999. (THECB Mission Statement and Table of Programs Approval Memo)

Reviews of the Texas A&M International University Institutional Mission and Table of Programs are currently under way.

The Texas A&M International University Institutional Mission is communicated to its constituencies through the Catalog 2004-2005, Institutional Mission, the Institutional Mission on the University web site, the Faculty Handbook, the Student Handbook, and the Agency Strategic Plan 2001-2005.
