2.6 The institution is in operation and has students enrolled in degree programs.

NARRATIVE/JUSTIFICATION FOR JUDGMENT OF COMPLIANCE

The institution has been in continuous operation with students enrolled in degree programs since its founding in 1970. Established as an upper level center, the University has evolved into a 4-year institution with authority to develop doctoral level programs. The University has operated as Texas A&I University at Laredo (1970-1976), Laredo State University (1977-1992), and, since 1993, Texas A&M International University, a member of The Texas A&M University System (Catalog 2004-2005, History of the University).

The University has doubled in size since 1994. Today's student body of over 4000 is served by 600 faculty, staff, and administrators making Texas A&M International University a regional center of educational opportunity.(Office of Institutional Research, Enrollment by College)  Since 1970, over 10,000 degrees have been awarded.(Office of Institutional Research, Degrees Awarded)
