3.7.5 The institution publishes policies on the responsibility and authority of faculty in academic and governance matters. JUDGMENT OF COMPLIANCE Compliance. NARRATIVE/JUSTIFICATION FOR JUDGMENT OF COMPLIANCE The University publishes policies on the responsibility and authority of faculty in academic and governance matters. Although the University President is the only individual responsible for making governance decisions, there is a system in place that allows for broad faculty input into matters dealing with the operation of the University. In the Faculty Handbook, the University publishes policies on the responsibility of faculty in academic and governance matters. The faculty has primary responsibility for the development of curriculum, with curricular review at the departmental, college, and University levels. In the area of governance, the Faculty Senate advises the Administration on all matters pertaining to academics throughout the institution, with the entire faculty voting on substantive issues that the Senate deems critical. (Faculty Handbook, Article II.3, Responsibility of the Faculty Senate) The Administration has oversight and ultimate authority over all academic and governance matters. Faculty have authority over matters pertaining to educational policy including such areas as admission standards, curricular requirements, standards for academic freedom and promotion and tenure. (Faculty Handbook, Article II.1, Authority of the Faculty) The President of the Faculty Senate is a member of the Executive Committee representing the faculty. (Executive Committee Membership) The Faculty Handbook states:
Faculty participate in University Committees such as the University Committee on Admission Standard and Exceptions, the University Curriculum Committee, the University Library Committee and the Promotion and Tenure Committee (Faculty Handbook, 2.30 Faculty Workload, B2 Committees). In addition, faculty are asked to serve on search committees for key positions such as deans, provosts, and vice presidents (Search Committee Members). SUPPORT DOCUMENTATION
