NARRATIVE/JUSTIFICATION FOR JUDGMENT OF COMPLIANCE

The University ensures the quality of educational programs/courses offered through consortia relationships or contractual agreements, ensures ongoing compliance with the comprehensive requirements, and evaluates the agreement against the purpose of the institution.

The University has executed memoranda of agreement establishing collaborative programs with Texas A&M University. These agreements followed an extended period of discussion and planning to assure that the programs meet the needs and standards of both institutions.

The University and Texas A&M University collaborate on two doctoral level programs in the College of Education: the Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction and the Ph.D. in Educational Administration. In collaboration with Texas A&M University, Texas A&M University – Corpus Christi and Texas A&M University – Kingsville, the University also participates in the state’s first Collaborative Ph.D. in Hispanic Studies.

In each of these programs, the degree is awarded through Texas A&M University. The intent is to gain expertise and develop faculty to allow the University to offer the programs independently. These programs are subject to review on a seven-year cycle by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board.

The University has established International Memoranda of Agreement with recognized higher education institutions in other countries. These agreements allow for student and faculty exchange. University students may take six hours of graduate credit for use on degree programs subject to the same requirements as any other transfer course. (Catalog 2004-2005, Academic Regulations-Graduate, Transfer of Graduate-Level Study) These agreements are subject to periodic review by the participating institutions.
