OFF-SITE REVIEW COMMITTEE COMMENTS
At the present time, the institution’s residence requirement is 30 semester hours, as stated in the Academic Catalog. However, many of the degree programs listed in the Academic Catalog have more than 120 credit hours required. For instance, the BA in English requires 126 hours. The institution needs to document that students receiving degrees from the institution earn at least twenty-five percent of the total credit hours through instructions offered by the institution.

NARRATIVE/JUSTIFICATION FOR JUDGMENT OF COMPLIANCE
Action: To document that students receiving degrees from Texas A&M International University earned at least 25% of the total credit hours for the degree through resident instruction, academic records for baccalaureate graduates over the past three years were reviewed.
To facilitate the review process, students who only attended a community college(s) before transfer to Texas A&M International University were excluded from the review. The rationale for this decision was that the University requires a minimum of 45 advanced hours for all undergraduate degrees. The range of semester credit hours required to receive a degree from the University is 120 to 139. Thus, 45 advanced hours would constitute, at a minimum, 33% of a degree requiring 139 semester credit hours and 37.5% of a degree requiring 120 semester credit hours.For students with transfer work from institutions other than community colleges, an evaluation of their degree program was conducted. The review showed that, in practice, all students completed at least 25% of coursework applicable to the degree at TAMIU.
Further, the residence requirement in the University Catalog has been changed to read:
Residence Requirement: The applicant for a bachelor’s degree must have been in residence at Texas A&M International University for a minimum of at least 25% of the semester credit hours required for the degree. (Catalog 2005-2006, Academic Regulations-Undergraduate, Residence Requirement) The number of hours in residence required in each degree will also be included as an appendix in the catalog and follows:
