Career Development Dimension

The goal of the Career Development experience is to have the ability to enter and succeed within the world of work.  Career Development activities offer students the opportunity to develop skills that are useful in the workplace. 

After successfully completing this dimension, students will be able to develop a correlation between their academic program and career aspirations, provide occasions for growth and application of one’s talents, and have tools necessary to compete in a global workforce.

In order to complete the Career Development Dimension, a student must complete three (3) items listed under the Entering Stage. The items listed below are currently considered as part of the Entering Stage of the Career Development Dimension. In order to mark these items as complete, please visit tamiu.collegiatelink.net.

  • Career/Job Fair Attendance (Fall and Spring)
  • Graduate/Professional School Fair Attendance (Fall)
  • Logistics and Manufacturing Association Symposium Attendance (Fall)
  • Complete On-Campus Job Application
  • Complete Learning in a Global Context II (UNIV 1102)
  • Western Hemispheric Trade Center Conference Attendance (Spring)
  • Item from Engagement Stage can be substituted for one item listed in this stage
Engagement Stage

In order to complete the Career Development Dimension, a student must complete two (2) items listed under the Engagement Stage. The items listed below are currently considered as part of the Engagement Stage of the Career Development Dimension. In order to mark these items as complete, please visit tamiu.collegiatelink.net.

  • Office of Career Services Workshop Participation (Fall and Spring)
  • Lamar Bruni Vergara Academic Conference Presentation (Spring)
  • National, Professional Association Membership
  • Dean's List Notification/Recognition
  • On-Campus Employment
  • Complete Foundations in Leadership (LEDR 2301)
  • Complete Teamwork and Communication (COMM 3320)
  • Complete Communication Ethics (COMM 4340)
  • University Honors/Scholars Program (University Honors, D.D. Hachar Honors, Sames Scholars, Sanchez Scholars)
  • Item from Leadership Stage can be substituted for one item listed in this stage
Leadership Stage

In order to complete the Career Development Dimension, a student must complete one (1) item listed under the Leadership Stage. The items listed below are currently considered as part of the Leadership Stage of the Career Development Dimension. In order to mark these items as complete, please visit tamiu.collegiatelink.net.

  • Graduate/Professional School Application Completion
  • Off-Campus Internship
  • Regional/National Conference Presentation
  • Student Mentor Employment with the Advising and Mentoring Center
  • Student Success Mentor with Recruitment and School Relations
