Fall Kickoff

Fall Kick-Off includes Welcome Week and Involvement Week at TAMIU. Held at the start of each academic year, this serves as the kick-off to the fall semester. In the past, this two-week long program includes:

  • Information Tents (campus maps, water, etc.)
  • Welcome Back BBQ
  • Hypnotist/Comedian Performance
  • Caricature Artist
  • Spray Paint Can Artist
  • Photo Flip Books
  • Student Organization Fair
  • Leadership Fair
  • Study Abroad Fair
  • Community Service Fair

Spirit Week

Each Spring Semester, the University hosts an annual celebration to commemorate Dustdevil spirit and pride at TAMIU.  Working in collaboration with the Campus Activities Board, Student Government Association, University Athletics, and other campus partners the following festivities are held:

  • SGA Shopping Cart Parade Decorating Party
  • Campus-wide Door Decorating Contest
  • Voting for Mr. and Ms. TAMIU
  • SGA Shopping Cart Parade 
  • CAB Pep-Rally
  • Spirit Week Tailgate, Basketball games, and Mr. and Ms. TAMIU Coronation

Emerging Leaders

Held at the end of each Spring semester, students are recognized for participating in the numerous leadership programs available at the University.  The leadership groups include:

  • Freshman Leadership Organization
  • The Leadership Journey with Recreational Sports
  • First Year Success Mentors with Advising and Mentoring Center
  • Student Success Mentors with Recruitment and School Relations
  • Sophomore Leaders Involved in Change
  • Sophomore Mentors with Advising and Mentoring Center
  • Honor Council with Student Conduct and Community Engagement
  • FOSS Leadership Awards with Title V: Focus on Student Success
  • Leadership TAMIU
  • President's Volunteer Services Awards with Student Conduct and Community Engagement
  • TAMIU Trailblazers

University Life Awards

Held at the end of each Spring Semester, students and student organizations are recognized for their efforts inside and outside of the classroom. Each year, awards are provided for the following:

  • Freshman Excellence Award
  • Leader of the Year
  • Advisor of the Year
  • Community Service Award
  • Student Organization of the Year
  • Senator Judith Zaffirini Scholarship and Leadership Award
  • Student Employee of the Year
